  1. Modernity changes styles or forms in different countries (p.93).
  2. Modernism includes a cluster of styles in art, and later added technology (p. 97).
  3. Different concepts of human subjects (p. 101).
  4. Looking involves more than one subject at a time (p.103).
  5. "..."the other" to describe self-consciousness as a component of the self-aware individual" (p.113).
  6. The over look of women, colored women, and so on in media was a huge deal back in the 1970s (p.121-122).
  7. "Many different kinds of looks, gaze, and interactions are at play when we use our screens" (p. 132).
Reflection:

What was interesting was how our practices of looking or gazing change when viewed through screens. In the section it talks about how few females are portrayed in video games or do not associate themselves with video games. Why do women become objects in video games? What is the effect of having them in video games? Does it benefit the profits or the people playing the games and looking at them. It was also interesting to learn that women were being harassed. We have also learned that we have not really progressed from sexual pleasure within the gaming world.

  1. Excellent points...and questions Jennifer. It definitely benefits the gaming companies. It has been well-documented over and again that the use of subliminal seduction increases profits. Objectification sells music, food, video games...and more. Sad, but true. We have come a long way, living in a culture that objectifies women, but we still have a long way to go.
